Dwight Silverman Reviews Apple MacBook and MacBook Pro


Following is an excerpt from his column:

YOU know that sense of pride and excitement you feel when you first bring home a shiny new computer? You’ve got a zippy machine that’s at the top of its game. It looks great, runs smoothly and all’s right with your digital world.

But the yin to that yang is when a newer version of the same model comes out, and suddenly, your computer is no longer the current offering. Even if it serves your needs nicely, you begin to develop . . . doubts.

And so it was last week, when Apple finally unveiled its new MacBook and MacBook Pro models. I bought a black MacBook in early 2007, and suddenly my machine’s not the current model. I love my MacBook dearly, but the new one is alluring. Is it compelling enough to make me want to shell out for the latest and greatest?
